Bayern Munich star striker Robert Lewandowski was held out of the International Champions Cup friendly tonight against AC Milan just before game time due to a minor muscular injury. Lewandowski was expected to start the game against the Serie A side, but could not participate as Bayern felt it was better to be safe than sorry with its prized center-forward at this stage of the season.

Update: For @lewy_official stands Fiete #Arp in the starting eleven. The reason is minor muscular problems.

As stated above, the decision to hold Lewandowski out was strictly precautionary. The Polish Hitman was replaced in the lineup by Bayern youngster Fiete Arp, who is seeing his first action in the center of the pitch.

Lewandowski’s injury also prevented a match-up with AC Milan’s Krzysztof Piątek, one of Lewandowski’s international teammates for Poland. Coincidentally, Piatek was linked to Bayern Munich as a potential transfer target last fall when he was starring for Genoa.

Serge Gnabry and Javi Martinez were reportedly also held out of the game due to muscular injuries as well.
