Bayern Munich II lost their first match of the 3.Liga season, 3-1 to Wurzburger Kickers, on Saturday. Despite the late equalizer from Kwasi Wriedt, Wurzburger responded with two quick goals of their own to put the match away.

The opening goal from Luca Pfeiffer came from a big error from Christian Fruchtl in goal. A long ball from just inside the Bayern half was headed back across the goal by Sebastian Schuppan. Fruchtl misjudged the flight of the ball as he came for it and was nowhere close to collecting it when he collided with Pfeiffer who headed it into the back of the net for the goal.

Wriedt showed often that he’s going to be a handful for defenses in the 3.Liga as he was in the Regionalliga, but it took until the 78th minute for Bayern to find their first goal. Joshua Zirkzee came on as a late substitute for Oliver Batista Meier and powered through a header to put Wriedt in with a shot. He tucked it inside the far post to equalize with just twelve minutes remaining.

However, that level score was short-lived. Wurzburger came right down the field with Fabio Kaufmann scoring the winner in the 80th minute and Dave Gnaase putting the finishing touches on the game with Wurzburger’s third goal in the 82nd minute.

FCB II are still without all options due to various injuries and players with the first team over in the USA. The goal for this season is for the team to avoid relegation, and they’ll have a fight on their hands all season long.
