Bayern Munich centerback Jerome Boateng will depart the 2019 Audi Summer Tour of the United States of America and return to Munich ahead of the remainder of the team. The reason given is “personal reasons.”
Obviously, heads start spinning when this sort of thing is announced so suddenly and mysteriously. Instantly, one turns to “Where is Jerome transferring to?!?” Rumors have been surrounding Boateng for over a year now that he’s been interested in continuing his playing career in ... not-Munich.

According to Sport1, however, it appears to be not a huge deal. They quote Bayern as saying that his return is “nothing dramatic.”
Zur Boateng-Abreise: Verein teilte eben auf @SPORT1-Nachfrage mit, dass es „nichts Dramatisches“ sei. Rein private Gründe. Boateng soll am Abend gegen Real Madrid im Kader stehen und spielen. Sonntag abreisen. Danach in München individuell trainieren.

So, it appears to be just a personal reason for Boateng to return to Munich instead of something nefariously transfer related. Boateng is expected to play tonight against Real Madrid before leaving for Munich on Sunday. He will continue to train individually once there. Maybe he’ll get into some hi-jinx with Lucas Hernandez before the rest of the first team arrives.
