Now that the U-21 Euro Championships are over, Schalke 04 goalkeeper sensation Alexander Nübel is preparing to think about his future, which could include a stint with Bayern Munich.
According to Sport1, Bayern’s front office is in serious talks with Nübel’s representation, and the club reportedly views Nübel as Manuel Neuer’s heir in the very near future:
As Sport1 exclusively reported, FC Bayern is more than merely interested in Nübel. It is thought in Munich that he should succeed Manuel Neuer — ideally putting him under pressure already in the coming season, and by 2020 at the latest. According to Sport1’s information, intense contact between Bayern’s front office and Nübel’s representation is ongoing. But there is not yet any verbal commitment on the part of Nübel, let alone a written agreement with the Rekordmeister.
But Bayern is not the only club interested in Nübel. AS Roma and “several” English clubs are also pursuing the Germany youth international. Schalke meanwhile is unwilling to let Nübel simply walk away, and are trying to persuade the 22-year-old to put his name on a contract extension.
Nübel first must decide whether or not he will accept the contract extension with Schalke he has sitting on the table. It is not impossible that he decides decides against it but stand between the posts for the Royal Blues in the coming season anyway. Nübel’s group knows, however, that if he decides to do so, he will have to take into account the reaction of the emotional Schalke fans.
Given that Manuel Neuer, Sven Ulreich, and Christian Früchtl are currently Bayern’s three goalkeepers on the roster, a move for Nübel would likely mean that either Ulreich or Früchtl move on.
