Bayern Munich views Celta Vigo’s Brais Mendez as a fallback option at wing

New, comments

Celta Vigo winger Brais Mendez has been linked to Bayern Munich, but is he anything more than a fallback option in the event that the Bavarians cannot sign Manchester City’s Leroy Sane or Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi?

In yesterday’s Daily Schmankerl, we covered the rumor linking Celta Vigo winger Brais Mendez to Bayern Munich. Today, however, Sport Bild has confirmed that Bayern Munich has been offered the player, but internally there is some disagreement on whether the club should pursue the 22-year-old.

According to information from Sport Bild and Bild Mendez was actually offered to the club, but internally opinions on the player differ.

Mendez has a contract with Celta Vigo through 2021, but does have opt-out clause of €25 million per Sport Bild.

Sport Bild chief Christian Falk ensured there was no doubt that the story was legit by stamping it with his patented “Flex” treatment. Falk also said that Mendez is a fallback option should Bayern Munich fail to land Manchester City’s Leroy Sane or Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi:

With Sane’s transfer being questionable at best and Hudson-Odoi looking extremely doubtful, perhaps Bayern Munich should make quick determination on whether or not Mendez could make the grade in Bavaria.
