One of the worst outcomes of the Bayern Munich vs. Arsenal friendly for the International Champions Cup on Wednesday night was the injury sustained by Bayern youngster Daniels Ontužāns.

Ontužāns went down in a heap during the first half and looked like he immediately knew something was wrong. As it turns out, Ontužāns suffered a torn ankle ligament on the play.

Bayern announced the extent of his injury via social media:

Daniels Ontuzans suffered a ligament and capsule tear in the friendly match #ARSFCB. The 19-year-old Latvian will break off the #AudiFCBTour early and travel back to Munich.

Latvian outlet TV Net speculates that Ontužāns will miss a significant amount of time:

Bayern announced that Ontužāns had torn his ankle ligament, during the team’s tour in the United States and that he would return to Munich. The recovery period for the footballer is also expected to be several months, although this information will be further clarified later.

Ontužāns is considered one of the bright prospects in the Bayern youth system and recently made his international debut for Latvia in June against Slovenia, only to see his squad suffer a 5-0 defeat.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder is signed through the 2021 season.
