After his scandalous retirement from international football almost a year ago, Wednesday’s International Champions Cup match between Bayern Munich and Arsenal was probably the first time Mesut Özil had met with his former Germany teammates and fellow world champions.
Özil delivered a brilliant performance during Arsenal’s 2-1 victory against Bayern, while sharing the stadium with six of his former colleagues: Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer and Jerome Boateng in the first half, Joshua Kimmich, Niklas Süle and Leon Goretzka in the second.

After the final whistle, the Gunner visited the Bayern locker room and presumably had amicable conversations with Müller, Neuer and Boateng in the Bayern cabin (Bild). Afterward, he left the stadium immediately after that and ignored requests by the media for comments and interviews.
He played almost till the end of the game and was substituted for Tyreece John-Jules at the 81st minute. With elegant and precise passes and hard runs on the counter attack, he seemed reinvigorated, forcing a strong save from Manuel Neuer on one of Arsenal’s best early chances. In contrast his brand new hair style, his performance was rated highly by the analysts.
