It appears that the Borussia Monchengladbach duo of Denis Zakaria and Florian Neuhaus was not the only Bundesliga talent that Niko Kovac had his eyes on.
Per a report from TZ journalist Manuel Bonke, Kovac also had his eyes on Hertha Berlin defensive midfielder and Germany youth international Arne Maier.
#FCBTransfersommer #FCBayern #AudiFCBTour

What is interesting about Marc Roca: #Kovac had the name of another U21 European finalist for the six position at @FCBayern on his list. He is said to have suggested internally that one consider Arne Maier of @HerthaBSC. #FCBTransfersommer#FCBayern#AudiFCBTour
With Espanyol’s Marc Roca seemingly at the top of Bayern Munich’s wish list for midfield transfers, could Maier be the fallback option? Maier was briefly linked to the Bavarians last season and is considered to be one of the top young defensive midfield prospects in Europe. Juventus, FC Barcelona, Arsenal, and Manchester United also expressed interest in the youngster last fall.
One thing is certain, Maier’s price tag likely would not be nearly as high as Roca’s €40 million release clause.
