As the 2019-20 Bundesliga season is approaching, fans and pundits have started to voice their opinions on who they think will be crowned the champions in the end. We have come across several people talking about the advantages Borussia Dortmund have this season and why it is necessary for Bayern Munich to strengthen their team further.
As we flip through the pages we find Neven Subotić, ex-defender of BVB now with Union Berlin. Subotić has optimism that his former team will finally end their trophy-less run in the German league this year, if Bayern doesn’t make additions to their roster. He sat down with Bild to give his takes on the upcoming season. He said (via Goal):
If the Bayern squad stays the same it is Dortmund. Very clearly. I say that as a former BVB player and fan.
The hole that Mats Hummels’ departure has created in the back line has already been closed by the additions of Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez. So, if things work out the way they are supposed to, Bayern wouldn’t be having many problems with the roster there. As for Hummels himself, Subotić is pleased about his return to Dortmund. He said,
I congratulate him. The team will benefit from him. He won four titles at Bayern during the last three years, while Dortmund only won one during that period. Dortmund will get a lot of experience in Mats. It is a big chance for him.
The Serbian international dismissed Bayern’s claims that Hummels was scared of fresh competition. He also said that the club’s ego is the reason why Bayern made such a statement:
It is normal a club communicates it that way. Who is in this business for a long time knows that it has something to do with your ego.
Of course, Kloppo finally did it. 2013 in the final against Bayern we already came very close. Until now Klopp won the championship and the cup. Now he managed to win an international title of the highest level.
It is comprehensible why Bayern need new signings. Everyone’s talking about it — the coach, the front office, the players and the fans. But however the team lines up next season, they aren’t going in without strategies that would help them overcome the flaws, if any, in the roster. After all, it is challenges that make the team stronger and the game interesting.
