Per a release from Bayern Munich today, five players from the club’s U-19 squad have been promoted to Bayern II, which will compete in 3.Liga for the 2019-2020 season. Among the players promoted were center-backs Chris Richards and Josip Stanisic, along with offensive players Daniels Ontuzans (attacking midfielder/wing), Can Karatas (wing), and Marcel Zylla (attacking midfielder/wing).
For many Bayern followers, Richards is likely the most recognizable name. The 19-year-old American is currently starring for the United States squad participating in the U-20 World Cup. It should be noted that Stanisic (19) and Zylla (19) have also garnered praise for their development.
In addition, Bayern II also extended the contract of Angelo Mayer. Mayer is a left-back, who joined Bayern II in 2017, but was nearing the end of his current deal. The 22-year-old extended his contract through June 2021 to keep him with the club for another two years.
