Report: Leroy Sane prefers Manchester City, fears “increased scrutiny” at Bayern Munich

Despite Bayern’s overt attempts to bring Sane in, it seems that the player himself isn’t convinced of the move.

Bad news if you’re a Bayern Munich fan — a new report by Bild (paywalled) all but confirms something that we already feared: that Leroy Sane himself wants to remain with Manchester City. The young winger, who was rumored to be willing to make an exit from the English champions, has reportedly told his friends that he would prefer to stay in England and win back the trust of his coach Pep Guardiola. Bild now claims to have corroborated The Sun’s report.

While at first it was rumored that City’s monetary demands would make the transfer difficult to accomplish, it seem that Sane himself is now the stumbling block for the Bavarians. The following quote from Uli Hoeness tells it all:

If he wants [the move], it will work.

If Sane wanted to move to Germany, he would have done so already. There’s clearly no desire on the part of the player to do so. According to Bild, there are a total of four (4) reasons why Sane seems likely to reject Bayern:

  • He wants to win back Pep’s confidence next season.
  • He fears the intense scrutiny he may get as a superstar at Bayern. At City, he feels he can remain under the radar to pursue his lifestyle better.
  • City can offer a higher salary than Bayern, who are only willing to go up to a maximum of 13 million euros per year.
  • His girlfriend Candice Brook, with whom he has a child, prefers to stay in England.

Of course, Bild are not the first publication to report this rumor, but when Bild backs up The Sun of all things, that’s when you begin to worry.

This could potentially be the end of the Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich dream. Despite the best efforts of Bayern’s German players and the bosses themselves, Sane remains unconvinced. After all that’s been done, it doesn’t seem like there’s anywhere left to go.

A transfer of this caliber always depends on the player’s desire to move, and if Sane does not want to do it, then there’s no amount of money that Bayern can offer City to make the transfer happen.
