Lewandowski: “Bayern’s German players very much looking forward to Sane’s signing”

Robert Lewandowski may have added “wait and see,” but he certainly made the team sound confident.

Permit us to pour a little more fuel on the fire: in comments reported by Goal, Bayern Munich’s striker Robert Lewandowski literally said, “Bayern’s German players are now very much looking forward to Sane’s signing.”

He of course added, “but we have to wait and see what is going on,” but if his remark is any indication of the state of Bayern’s locker room, his teammates seem very confident indeed.

Sané has been linked to Bayern since late May, and none other than Lewandowski himself was among the first to praise the young German winger as “a player who can immediately take us higher.” Meanwhile, Sané’s young Germany teammates Leon Goretzka, Niklas Süle, and Serge Gnabry (not to mention Manuel Neuer) have launched a charm offensive on international duty that has even spilled over into social media:

Sané seems ideal to fill one (or either) of the vacancies left behind by club legends Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben. He appears underused at Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, starting only 21 games in a healthy season.

Lewandowski possibly alluded again to Sané in commenting about Ribery and Robben’s departure. He said,

They are legends, of course their departure is sad. But Bayern will also sign more and better replacements. I believe that the winger Bayern will sign in the future will be as good as Robben and Ribery.

Lewandowski hopes Bayern will sign reinforcements this summer to prevent an upset by Dortmund, which just purchased Mats Hummels to bolster their defense. He said,

In order to have a good performance next season and to overcome Dortmund, I hope that Bayern can do something in the transfer market this summer.
