The rumors of Mats Hummels re-joining Borussia Dortmund proved to be true. Bayern Munich brought back the center-back for the 2016-2017 season, but his latest stint on Säbener Strasse is over.
Earlier this morning, kicker, reported that Hummels would rejoin Dortmund for 38 million euros, which includes bonuses. TZ has also confirmed the news. TZ indicated that bonuses will be tied to the number of appearance and certain performance metrics. Both reports state Hummels will sign a three-year contract. Specifically, TZ’s report stated the following:

Mats Hummels (30) is about to return to Borussia Dortmund. On Wednesday, FC Bayern and BVB reached an agreement in principle on a change of central defender, who had already played for Dortmund from 2008 to 2016. Both sides have agreed not to disclose any details of the transfer. In order to complete the transfer, Hummels must now complete the medical check in Dortmund.

Hummels was a youth player with Bayern Munich before leaving for Dortmund in 2008. Hummels played with BVB from 2008 to 2016 before returning to Bavaria, where he won three consecutive Bundesliga championships.
