Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies was in the starting XI for Canada yesterday during his squad’s 4-0 victory over Martinique in CONCACAF Gold Cup action. Davies contributed to the winning effort with an assist as the victory helped Canada keep pace with a very strong side from Mexico in Group A of the competition.
While Davies did not find the back of the net, the former Vancouver Whitecaps star did use his vision to set-up Junior Hoilett’s goal in the 63rd minute as seen in the embedded tweet below:

Canada’s Jonathan David scored in the 33rd and 53rd minutes, while Scott Arfied added Canada’s final goal in the 67th minute. Davies was substituted off after 70 minutes as Canada rolled to an easy win.
Davies, the 18-year-old former who is expected to work at both wing and left-back upon his return to Germany, is surely relishing the opportunity to play in the CONCACAF Gold Cup with his countrymen.
