Bayern Munich goalkeeper Sven Ulreich has earned a call-up to Germany’s national team after Arsenal’s Bernd Leno succumbed to a thumb injury. Ulreich, who had several stellar performances in filling in for Manuel Neuer this season, will join Neuer and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers.
The is the first time that the 30-year-old Ulreich has earned an international call-up to the senior team. Germany goalkeeper coach Andreas Köpke was happy to see Ulreich earn the call, as told to Az:
Sven has earned this call. When he was needed this season, he was there and showed top performances at FC Bayern. That’s a great quality.
Ulreich made 12 appearance across all competitions this season and allowed 17 goals, while compiling two clean sheets.
In addition to Leno’s absence, FC Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen will also miss the games for Germany due to a knee injury. Die Mannschaft will face Belarus on June 8th and Estonia on June 11th.
