The Bundesliga title race is not over, but Borussia Dortmund certainly made things easier for Bayern Munich over the weekend.
After jumping out to a 2-0 lead over Werder Bremen, Dortmund suffered a collapse that climaxed with former Bayern striker Claudio Pizarro’s game-tying goal in the 75th minute. Despite the disappointing from a lost opportunity, outgoing BVB midfielder and United States international Christian Pulisic indicated that Dortmund will continue to fight.
In an interview with Bundesliga.com, Pulisic said that Dortmund will press forward in trying to break Bayern’s stronghold on Germany’s top flight.
We’re never going to give up. We know we can do our part now, and it just comes down to Bayern losing a few games, but we’re never gonna give up.
Pulisic, who is headed to Chelsea on a transfer this summer, lamented Dortmund’s second half collapse against Werder Bremen, but knows his squad can rebound.
It was a really tough game today. We had a great first half, but we didn’t come out with that same energy, that same intensity in the second half. I’m not sure what it was. We just let them play their game, they’re a good team, and in the end, we have to win that after the first half.
Bayern only needs to win one of its last two games to clinch its seventh consecutive league crown. While that may not seem like such a difficult feat, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt both have proven to be formidable opponents during this campaign. Dortmund, meanwhile, will need wins against Fortuna Dusseldorf and Borussia Monchengladbach to slip by Bayern should the Bavarians lose their final two games.
