For the first time in their history, Union Berlin will be playing in the Bundesliga next season. With Monday’s 0-0 draw against Stuttgart, they win the promotion playoff 2-2 on away goals. Union will join FC Koln and Paderborn who already secured promotion back to the Bundesliga following their first and second place finish in the 2.Bundesliga. Union will be the 56th different club to play in the Bundesliga.
You could feel the tension in the Stadion an der Alten Försterei through the TV screen, and when the referee blew the final whistle, that tension exploded into a massive pitch invasion.
Just look at those scenes!

Stuttgart will join Hannover and Nurnberg down to the 2.Bundesliga. Oh, yeah, Hamburg are still there as well. It’s a shame that some of the highest supported clubs are in the 2.Bundesliga, but if it means we keep getting wonderful stories like Union Berlin winning promotion, we’ll just have to deal with it.
