Bayern Munich II entered the second leg of their promotion playoff against Wolfsburg II facing a 1-3 deficit after a poor performance away in the first leg. Eight minutes into the decisive match, Wolfsburg scored again. It was all over for Bayern II at 1-4, and they were doomed to spend at least another season in the Regionalliga trying to win promotion to the 3.Liga.
Then, everything just sort of clicked into place.
Holger Seitz’s side started scratching and clawing their way back into things. Before the halftime whistle, Bayern II had pulled back two goals through Jannik Rochelt and Lars Lukas Mai. The second half then became the Kwasi Okyere Wriedt show, as the big forward scored twice to give Bayern the 5-4 lead on aggregate.
The Bavarians would hold on to win and are going back to the 3.Liga.
The last time Bayern II were playing in the 3.Liga, it was the 2010-11 season, and they finished dead last ending a run of 38 straight years in the third division for the side. Now, the club can get their reserves playing at a proper level to help make the adjustment from the reserves to the first team a little easier.
As you can see, some familiar faces from the first team came over following the celebration at the Marienplatz to join in the promotion party.

In other news, Bayern II on the women’s side won the 2 Frauen Bundesliga last weekend. Wolfsburg II finished in second place. They will not, obviously, be promoted to the top flight, because a club’s first team and their reserves can not play in the same division. The finish was a flip of the Bundesliga, where Wolfsburg won and Bayern finished second. Congrats!
