Bayern Munich bid €80m for Manchester City’s Leroy Sane (Updated)

And so it begins.

Things are really heating up now! According to journalist Fabrizio Romano of The Guardian, Bayern Munich have submitted their first bid for Manchester City winger Leroy Sane. The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to the Bavarians this summer, with Pep Guardiola allegedly giving the greenlight to the transfer.

Here’s the original source of the information:

Fabrizio Romano is known to be rather reliable so there’s no reason to not believe this report. €80m basically means that the Bavarians have started bidding straight from the limit Uli Hoeness imposed last week, which isn’t really surprising — we all knew Sane wasn’t going to come cheap. It’s unlikely that City will capitulate at the first bid, so unless something weird happens, expect the price to only go up from here.

This is likely just the beginning of a long negotiation procedure that may take weeks or even months to complete. Bayern Munich need a winger like Leroy Sane to replace club legends like Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, and the fact that he’s German and already has an established partnership with Serge Gnabry will be a bonus. This summer has already seen the Bavarians break their transfer record on Lucas Hernandez for €80m, but it’s likely that record won’t stay for very long.

Update

We have some more info on the Sane story! Bayern have reportedly offered him a 5 year contract worth €10m a year.
