Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka exited Saturday’s Bundesliga title-clinching victory over Eintracht Frankfurt with a thigh injury and the ailment is apparently serious enough to keep the 24-year-old out of the DFB-Pokal finale.

Goretzka was hobbled in the first half and substituted out for Renato Sanches by Niko Kovac in the 37th minute. At first, it was unclear as to why Goretzka was removed from the game, but the injury has done enough damage to hold the former Schalke 04 man out against RB Leipzig.

If things go to form, the double pivot of Thiago Alcantara and Javi Martinez should be the starting central midfield tandem in Kovac’s 4-2-3-1 formation.

In addition to Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich was late in travelling to Berlin as his arrival was delayed due to “family reasons.” Kimmich is expected to meet the rest of the team on Friday. Also, Sven Ulreich tweaked his back this week in training, but is expected to be healthy enough to play if he is needed in the DFB-Pkal final.
