Franck Ribery was already in elite company heading into Saturday’s Bundesliga title decider against Eintracht Frankfurt. When the final whistle blew at the Allianz Arena, Ribery stood alone as the most successful player in the history of the Bundesliga.
Breaking the previous five-way tie in first place, Ribery has now won nine Bundesliga championships. It’s a remarkable achievement when you consider that those nine championships came in only twelve seasons.
The record likely won’t last for too long. Both David Alaba and Thomas Müller have now moved into second place with 8 Bundesliga championships. Both will certainly pass Ribery in the next few years and reach the 10 Bundesliga championships threshold.
Fellow departing legend Arjen Robben won his eighth Bundesliga championship, while this was Rafinha’s seventh.
