Despite not grabbing one of Bayern Munich’s five goals in their beatdown of Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, Robert Lewandowski has won the Bundesliga’s golden boot award as the league’s top scorer. He was award the kicker Torjägerkanone on the field after the final whistle as the title celebrations were just beginning.
It’s Lewandowski’s fourth time winning the Bundesliga golden boot award. This is also his second straight, which hasn’t been done since Bayer Leverkusen’s Ulf Kirsten won back-to-back from 1996-1998.
The season wasn’t the easiest at times for Lewandowski. When the club struggled to generate chances, Lewandowski’s production dipped, and he was on the receiving end of seemingly never-ending criticism. Still, the big striker powered through and ended the season with 22 goals, 4 goals ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s Paco Alcacer.
Bravo, Robert. We salute you!
