In today’s Daily Schmankerl, we outlined a report from Marca that stated Bayern Munich had interest in outgoing Atletico Madrid star and 2018 World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann. The threat of Bayern being involved in the “Griezmann Sweepstakes”, however, has apparently pushed FC Barcelona to expedite its attempt to bring in the France international.
Per Sport Bild’s Christian Falk, Barca has made the move to secure an agreement with Griezmann, which would bring the 28-year-old to Camp Nou this summer.
Because of rumors @FCBayern: according to our information there is agreement between @AntoGriezmann and @FCBarcelona @SPORTBILD

Despite his immense talent, Bayern’s involvement with Griezmann seemed pretty far-fetched. With the transfer fee expected to flow somewhere between €100m-€125m, Griezmann would have been an “outside the box” acquisition for the Bavarians even in an offseason that is expected to see much roster turnover.
As stated in the Daily Schmankerl, if Bayern is going to pursue that type of player, Bayer Leverkusen’s 19-year-old phenom Kai Havertz would appear to be a move that would more fit the injection of youth that the Bavarians allegedly are trying to infuse on the roster.
