FC Nürnberg sets its sights on Lars Lukas Mai

Der Club is destined for the 2. Liga and badly needs defensive reinforcements. Might Mai and Bayern oblige?

Bayern Munich’s 19-year-old center-back prospect Lars Lukas Mai has attracted the interest of several teams in the Bundesliga and 2. Liga. The latest is a team that sorely needs defensive reinforcements: FC Nürnberg, which will be relegated back to the 2. Liga at the end of the season. Der Club has conceded a brutal 63 goals in just 33 games thus far this season.

Enter Mai: Nürnberg could use Mai to help rebuild as it returns to the 2. Liga after the pummeling it received in the top flight. Mai is just 19 and has already made his 1. Bundesliga debut, playing twice last season for Jupp Heynckes. He has not played this season under Niko Kovac, but he trains regularly with the first team.

This season with Bayern II, which clinched the championship of the Regionalliga Bayern and will play VfL Wolfsburg II in the playoff relegation/promotion playoff for the 3. Liga, Mai has played in 24 matches, scoring 1 goal in the Regionalliga.
