Jerome Boateng has been ruled out of Bayern Munich’s match against Nürnberg, but has not suffered a long-term injury. Arjen Robben will travel with the team.

Bayern Munich will have to travel to Nürenberg without much depth in their defense. According to Bild (paywall), Jerome Boateng had to stop training today and be taken to the locker room. The incident occurred when the defender went into a challenge with Javi Martinez and Robert Lewandowski and hurt his knee. Apparently the injury was worrisome enough to warrant an MRI from the team doctors. There has been no diagnosis as of yet, but we will provide that information as soon as it becomes available.

With Boateng’s injury not 100% clear, it’s hard to predict what will happen, but he will almost certainly be out tomorrow vs. Nürnberg. Even if the MRI proves it was just a small knock, I can’t imagine Niko Kovac would risk him when he still has Niklas Süle and Mats Hummels to turn to.

Let’s hope that his injury is nothing serious, so he can continue his career (Munich or elsewhere) without injuries still hanging over his head. He’s had so many in his career already; it’s about time he catches a break.

UPDATE: Boateng diagnosed with knee contusion

The diagnosis is in. According to Bild’s information, the MRI on Boateng’s knee did not detect any ligament damage. The center-back has suffered merely a knee contusion that will rule him out of Bayern’s game against Nürnberg on Sunday.

There is further good news as well: after five months of struggling with a variety of health issues, Arjen Robben will be on the roster tomorrow. Good luck, Arjen!
