Seldom-used and disgruntled Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches voiced his displeasure to the media after Saturday’s 1-0 win over Werder Bremen. The 21-year-old midfielder issue some postgame comments where he stated that he wanted to be loaned or sold away from Munich due to his lack of playing time, before doubling down to state that Niko Kovac does not “speak too much” with him.
If there was a blueprint for trying to force your way off of a team, Sanches has just taken step one of the process.
During his press conference earlier today, Kovac addressed the issue head-on. Until Sanches proves himself to be more capable than some of the teammates he is competing with, the former SL Benfica man might want to get comfortable on the bench.
To be blunt, it’s not simple. He’s training diligently like all the others. We all have the responsibility — including him — to give our all. He has to wait for the situation in which I can play him. The team is set.
When that “situation” will occur remains to be seen. With Bayern fully engaged in trying to secure a domestic double, playing opportunities for the squad’s seemingly lowest rated midfielder might be hard to come by.
