Joshua Kimmich’s facial hair evolution continues

Why stop at a mustache when you can go full beard?

If any Bayern Munich player has created a stir with facial hair this season, it has been Germany international and future captain Joshua Kimmich.

Earlier in the season, Kimmich drew the ire of some fans and the admiration of others for his growth and maintenance of a caterpillar mustache. Kimmich never quite reached “full push broom” status, but his effort should have been commended nonetheless.

While the facial hair was scoffed at by the uninspired, those of us who truly admire a man embracing his facial hair — no matter how absurd — were proud of the right back extraordinaire.

Fast forward to today as pictures have leaked of Kimmich sporting an even more substantial growth (not the Mario Gotze boat picture type). If you look closely, you will see the possible makings of a beard for the 24-year-old.

It’s true, we’ve got a BEARD ALERT! We are not sure if Kimmich has just pushed off shaving this week or if he is actually going for it. Perhaps, Kimmich is just rocking a playoff beard to support the NHL or if he is just embracing his inner lumberjack, but one thing is clear: The young man is growing up and no longer looks like he would get carded to purchase a beer here in in the good, old United States.

In a season that has featured Niko Kovac’s infatuation with the scarf life and Leon Goretzka’s commitment to attempting to control a most unfastidious hairstyle, Kimmich’s facial hair experimentation may be the “prolonged off-the-field” story line of the season.

So, tell us what has been your favorite “look” this season?
