In a new report by Bild (paywalled), it appears that Bayern Munich hasnot given up on making Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl a part of the power structure at the club. The paper reports that the 45-year-old would not face any opposition from the bosses if he decided to make the switch.
Eberl, who extended his contract with Gladbach until 2020, has long been linked with a Bayern job. At Gladbach, he recently expanded the club’s medical and support staff and brought in Marco Rose of Red Bull Salzburg to be the coach next summer. Bild speculatesthat Gladbach may now be in a good-enough position to let Eberl leave, so a switch to Bayern may be feasible.
Could a future Eberl-Kahn leadership be on the cards? That seems to be what the rumors are saying. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge already announced his retirement in 2021, but Uli Hoeness is yet to decide on his own future — Eberl could realistically fill one of their jobs, with Kahn filling the other. However, where would this move leave Hasan Salihamidzic?
As Bayern Munich look to conduct a generational shift both on and off the pitch, the club needs strong leadership more than ever. Hopefully, those in charge get it right, and we move into a new era stronger than ever.
