Manuel Neuer and Mats Hummels both left in the second half of Sunday’s match for Bayern Munich against Dusseldorf with injuries. The club has announced that Neuer, who left the game in the 59th minute, has ruptured muscle fiber in his calf.
While this sounds serious, this translates to a mild strain. The Bayern captain is expected to miss two weeks. This means Neuer would miss both matches against Werder Bremen, once in the league and once in the DFB Pokal. He would also miss the league fixture against cellar-dwellers Nürnberg.
FC Bayern II’s goalie, Christian Früchtl has also been injured recently. If Früchtl is still out Bayern will be short on goalkeepers, with Ron-Thorben Hoffmann as the next logical option.
Mats Hummels left the field shortly before the final whistle. He has been diagnosed with a pulled quad muscle. If treated properly, the German center-back should only have to miss a few days training. If all goes well he should not have to miss a game.
