It was an important win for Bayern Munich. Last time they faced Fortuna Düsseldorf it marked an unfortunate draw. Dodi Lukebakio made his mark in that match with a hat trick. Today, Lukebakio also managed to score a goal, but more importantly, Bayern played a good match and allowed little space for the opposition. Without further ado, here are the match awards!
Jersey Swap: Dodi Lukebakio
Again Lukebako proved why few notable clubs are interested in the services of this Belgian striker. When he was subbed in, Fortuna looked more threatening and managed to create a few chances. Eventually, Lukebakio scored a consolation goal from a penalty.
Tip of the Cap: Joshua Kimmich
An exemplary performance from the right-back. Kimmich was one of the better players today for the Bavarians and managed to help the team with an assist (surprise surprise). His partnership with Serge Gnabry and especially with Thomas Muller is one for the books! The way that they understand each other is amazing and it brings a certain character to Bayern’s play. Kimmich was very effective both in defense and attack and had few other chances to make an assist, but Dusseldorf’s defense was up to the task.
Golf Clap: Kingsley Coman
Today was certainly his day. He scored two goals and was a constant threat for Michael Rensing. Although truth be told, Robert Lewandowski was right for being mad at him. He was oftentimes dispossessed and didn’t provide a timely pass. Although he was selected as Whoscored man of the match, he didn’t impress me, personally, that much today. His first goal was an accident and his second goal was provided mostly by Kimmich and Gnabry. I saw two better performances than the young Frenchman.
Standing Ovation: Thomas Muller
He continued his marvelous form from last week’s thrashing of Borussia Dortmund. He was definitely one of the most important players for Bayern throughout the game. His movements were unstoppable against Fortuna. But what’s even more impressive is his commitment, as Muller was constantly seen helping Thiago Alcantara and Javi Martinez in the defensive end and then more often seen helping Kimmich and Gnabry on the right wing. And his assist? One of the better efforts this season for sure.
Meister of the Match: Serge Gnabry
Upon first glance, Gnabry had a quiet match, but he was playing he was involved in every Bayern goal today. Usually, Gnabry’s passing is a bit off, but today his pass (assist) for Coman was a beautiful one and the one for Kimmich was something that Thiago could be proud of. He also managed to score a goal after an acrobatic assist from the Raumdeuterer. From this match only you could make a long YouTube video compilation of his dribbles. He had a 67% dribble accuracy and most of his dribbles he did with ease. It seems that going vegan was the right choice for Bayern’s “chef.”
