We just got a glimpse earlier this week of what Bayern Munich’s special edition retro “Icon” kit was going to look like and now the design concept for their third kit for next season has also been leaked via Footy Headlines. Oddly enough, the design for next season’s third kit isn’t too far off from the “Icon” kit. It follows strikingly similar color patterns; the differences are primarily in the details.
Have a look at the concept:

At this point, the above image is really the only available preview we have of the kit, but we still get a general idea of what it’s going to look like. Much like the “Icon” jersey, this kit features a dark navy blue base with diamond-shaped, light-blue accents throughout the body. Foot Headlines speculates that the lighter-colored diamond pattern is inspired either by the roof of the Allianz Arena and/or the Bavarian flag with a slightly different color take. Either way, the color scheme bears resemblance to last year’s navy blue away kit. The latter featured the large red ring across the chest, as well as the navy shorts that accompanied Bayern’s home kit this season, until the Ultras protested in favor of a return to red.
Consistent with the retro “Icon” shirt, the third kit features a red, monochromatic Adidas logo and team badge on opposite breasts, while the white T-Mobile logo is in the center. Nothing yet is available on the shorts and socks that will accompany this jersey, but it’s presumed that they will follow the navy blue color scheme to make the full kit the same color from head to toe.
It’s also presumed that the neck will be similar to the flat collar design from this season’s third kit, which Bayern have scarcely worn this season. While I was searching for pictures from Bayern’s away Champions League match at Ajax when they sported their third kit, it also struck me that next season’s third kit could resemble the team’s walkout jackets:
Blue has been the subject of controversy among the Bayern Ultras, above all the navy blue shorts that accompanied the home kit, but the design concept for next season’s third kit is a bit different. Since the idea appears to pay homage to both the iconic roof of the Allianz Arena and the Bavarian flag, it could very well prove to be something the Ultras and all Bayern fans alike will cherish.
