Now, this is an interesting rumor. According to Sky, a pair of Crystal Palace stars are attracting the attention of top clubs in Germany. While Wilfried Zaha seems to be on Borussia Dortmund’s radar, Bayern Munich are interested in 21-year old right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The report is as bare-bones as you can get, so there’s really not much to make of it. Wan-Bissaka is an England U-21 international, and is currently in the midst of a breakthrough season in the English Premier League.
The youngster has played an impressive 2,573 minutes across all competitions this season, and is already being linked with the likes of Manchester United and City. He’s the second English youngster to be linked to Bayern in recent months, after Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi in the winter.
However, the notion of a transfer going though sounds far-fetched at the moment. While Rafinha is indeed leaving Bayern this summer, France international Benjamin Pavard has already been confirmed for next season, and Joshua Kimmich is practically untouchable at the right back position. For Wan-Bissaka, it would make no sense to move to Munich, only to get buried on the bench.
There is the chance that the Bayern board see Kimmich as a midfielder going forward, and want Wan-Bissaka to be his replacement, but it seems unnecessary given the existing quality of Bayern Munich’s midfield. Let’s file this rumor under the “unlikely” category for now.
