Update: Bayern Munich has not submitted an official bid for Luka Jovic

Sky Sports now reports that the claims from Spain about an official offer for Jovic are bunk.

According to journalist Miguel Rico of Mundo Deportivo, Bayern Munich are trying to rival both Barcelona and Inter Milan for the acquisition of Luka Jovic. The Eintracht Frankfurt striker has set the Bundesliga alight this season, and is at the top of the list for many big clubs around Europe.

Following up on an older report, MD claim that Bayern have submitted a concrete bid for the Serbian, amounting to about 56m euros. Inter Milan are also looking at the forward as a potential replacement for Mauro Icardi, and Barcelona have been linked with him for a while now. Luis Suarez isn’t getting any younger, after all.

Sounds fishy

Despite MD being a Catalan-based newspaper, they are currently the only ones linking Bayern with Jovic. Most German publications continue to indicate that Timo Werner is the main target of the Bavarians. This is why, as fans of Bayern Munich, we should be reasonably skeptical about the club submitting a bid, especially since MD are known for being the mouthpiece of the Barcelona board.

In addition, MD say that Barcelona are not worried about Bayern’s interest in the player, as they are convinced that Jovic wants to leave the Bundesliga. This doesn’t add up. Anyone who follows Bayern’s transfer dealings knows that we always agree terms with the player long before submitting an official bid to the club. If Jovic’s intention to leave the Bundesliga were as set in stone as MD claim, then there’s no way Bayern would ever submit a bid.

This just seems like a typical MD bluster piece to hype up Barcelona’s transfer dealings, trying to show their readers (many of whom are Barcelona club members, with voting rights) how the Catalan giants are going after the best players in Europe. Basically, it’s propaganda.

Luka Jovic may or may not come to Bayern, but there is no reason to believe this report.

UPDATE: No official bid has been made

According to Sky Sports Torben Hoffmann, Bayern has not made any such official bid for Luka Jovic. Hoffmann writes,

According to our information, no official offer for over 56 million euros has been made by FC Bayern to SGE [Eintract Frankfurt] for Luka Jovic.

Spanish media had reported that the Rekordmeister had made such an offer for the 21-year-old.
