Injury update: Kingsley Coman will return to Bayern Munich after being ruled out for France

Yet another setback for the young Frenchman.

More bad news (when is there ever good news?), Kingsley Coman has been ruled out of France’s upcoming clash with Iceland. The young winger will return to Munich where he will be examined by the club’s medical team. His participation in Bayern Munich’s upcoming game against SC Freiburg is in doubt.

Here is Bayern’s official statement on the matter:

Coman was apparently ruled out due to “back problems”. This marks the third injury for the Frenchman in 2019, following an ankle problem that affected his performance against Liverpool at Anfield, and a hamstring injury that made him unable to start the return leg of that fixture.

With a crucial game against Borussia Dortmund coming up, Bayern cannot afford Coman to miss yet another big game due to injury. He can be the difference maker against difficult opposition, like the time he got a goal and assist to help Bayern get past Juventus in 2016. Unfortunately, this is becoming a recurring problem with Coman, who also missed last season’s Real Madrid games with an ankle injury.

We wish him a speedy recovery. In the meantime, with Arjen Robben also out injured, Serge Gnabry, Franck Ribery, and Thomas Muller will all need to pick up the slack.
