Grim news from Säbener Strasse: Javi Martinez was injured in training this morning. According to Bild (Bild+), whose reporter Dennis Brosda attended the practice, Martinez collided with Hummels and immediately went to the ground, holding his face. Team doctor Jochen Hahne and head physiotherapist Helmut Erhard treated Javi on the grass, before he was then taken off the pitch in a golf cart.
A pictures taken by Brosda shows Javi standing as he makes toward the golf cart with the help of Hahne. If that is any consolation, the photo shows that Javi can at least still stand. It will presumably take some time before the team can diagnose the injury and prepare a statement. His participation in tomorrow’s match against Mainz is in doubt, to say the least.
There was also more potentially disconcerting news: Serge Gnabry was also missing from practice. He trained individually in the performance center. After the disappointment from Bayern’s Champions League defeat to Liverpool mid-week, Niko Kovac’s starting lineup for Mainz may well be rather creative.
