Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka has been a huge part of the squad’s resurgence in the Bundesliga. The 24-year-old’s former team, however, could be headed for relegation unless things change.
Speaking to SportBild, Goretzka was dumbfounded at how Schalke 04 has fallen so far, so fast.
“At the moment everything is going against Schalke. I watched the game and I’m shocked by what decisions were made. I didn’t even want to look at the interviews, because of course you’re suffering. They played very well up until 1:1, which in my opinion was strange.”
Since the start of February, Die Konigsblauen has been abysmal in the league. Schalke has five losses and one draw in that time-frame and has been outscored 16-5 in that span. With 23 points, Schalke is just four points ahead of 16th place VfB Stuttgart.
Given the high expectations placed Schalke this season, the performance of the players on the roster and coach Domenico Tedesco will certainly be closely scrutinized over the next few weeks.
Given how things have played out, Goretzka must have no regrets about about making the leap to Munich.
