BFW Fight Club: When ultras collide

For the most part, we hear good things about the game day experience in Bavaria, but it got a little testy between the Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg fans yesterday.

The action on the pitch at the Allianz Arena was intense as Bayern Munich throttled Wolfsburg 6-0 behind a terrific overall performance by Die Roten.

The battering, however, was not limited to the soccer field. When ultras from Bayern and Wolfsburg met up in the street, things got a bit heated (as captured by Instagram user 1312_international).

The two groups started to engage in a scene that looked straight out of Gangs of New York for a full-scale, “no weapons” brawl on the streets of Munich.

Spanish outlet AS had a brief write-up on the encounter:

It happened before Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg met at the Allianz Arena in Munich. A fight in the style of the Russian ‘drakas’, in which the ultra stick with certain laws: they are punched and punched but no weapons.

Well, as the character Omar Little famously said on The Wire: “A man’s got to have a code.”
