Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman expected to be fit in time for Liverpool

The Frenchman has been out since late February with a hamstring injury, but he’ll look to return in Bayern’s biggest game of the season.

We all know how good Kingsley Coman is for Bayern Munich — when he’s on the field. Unfortunately, injuries have largely precluded him from displaying those qualities. When he went down with an apparent hamstring injury against Hertha Berlin on February 23rd, all of our hearts dropped. We immediately circled the March 13th clash Liverpool as a game he absolutely needed to be fit for. There was a bit of a scare earlier this week when Bild claimed that Coman would miss that second leg. Luckily for us, in a report from AZ, the winger is almost guaranteed to be in the team when Bayern looks to close out Liverpool in the Allianz.

Niko Kovac had this to say to Kicker:

We’re positive and believe that he can make it in time. We still have four days, which we want to make the best of.

Realistically, Bayern needs Coman to be ready in time. Due to suspension, we won’t have Thomas Müller to play on the wing like he did today against Mönchengladbach. While we might have Franck Ribery to replace Coman, and his three assists today might make him look like a good option, let me remind you that Liverpool is just a tad better than the team Bayern just beat 6-0. I’m all for Ribery proving that he still has some left in the tank, but all things considered, Coman is just better equipped to do damage to the English club. Plus, unless we want to start 18-year-old Alphonso Davies, those four days are going to have to do their job. One thing’s for sure though: if Coman remains on schedule we’ll be in for an exciting fixture on Wednesday.
