Road trip: Bayern youngsters to travel with team to Mönchengladbach

Several promising young players from Bayern II will accompany the senior team to Gladbach. As Bayern Munich is very thin on the wings, there is a fair chance they may see some playing time.

Bayern Munich has announced ahead of their away game against Mönchengladbach tomorrow that U23 youth players Meritan Shabani, Lukas Mai, and Wooyeong Jeong will make the trip with the senior team to Gladbach. There they will presumably join Alphonso Davies, who played for Bayern II for the first time this past weekend. It hasn’t been the best week for Alphonso Davies, as the Bayern brass expressed some concern about his development, but there might be a silver lining on the horizon.

While it is very unlikely that all the youth players will see the pitch, Davies and Jeong in particular stand a decent chance of seeing a little playing time, as both Kingsley Coman and Franck Ribery are not fit to play. As Borussia Mönchengladbach currently sit at third place in the Bundesliga standings and only one point separates them and RasenBall Leipzig, it is a sure bet they will be playing a tight match. With Bayern sitting three points back of Borussia Dortmund, minutes will surely be occupied by those who can put them in the best position to win.
