Manuel Neuer injured himself during a training session and has already missed two games for Bayern Munich. He was spotted wearing a plastic splint on his injured thumb. Since then he did not participate in goalkeeper training and participated in training sessions as a field player. However, he told ESPN that he expects to be back in action in time for Bayern’s trip to Anfield.
I am fine, it’s not that bad. I think our medical [staff] will push me into goal, if everything is fine in training, I will play [against Liverpool]. We are all positive. I think I will be between the posts.
The mere opportunity to play against Liverpool is making him work harder on his comeback.
It’s the first game for me at Anfield. I’m looking forward to playing there. We have heard a lot about the atmosphere in the stadium — everyone who watches football knows it’s special, and I think they will be two great games.
Sven Ulreich also confirmed for Kicker that Neuer will be back soon, most probably against Augsburg.
I do not think [that I’ll continue playing much] because Manu has told me that it’s a matter of days before he comes back. And I’m assuming he’ll play again in Augsburg.
Then Neuer added how the Champions League is important for Bayern and that the tie against Liverpool is basically a final before the final.
For us, the Champions League is very important. It is a knockout tie, two finals. We are happy to play in their stadium. Hopefully, it will be a great night for us. But it depends on the result, of course.
Hopefully, Manu will make his recovery in time, because he is quite needed for Bayern’s defense. Don’t get me wrong, Sven Ulreich is great, but Neuer gives the same confidence to our back players, and it always shows. Prior to his injury, Neuer was in a streak of good form; hopefully he will still have his mojo against Liverpool’s attack.
