Yesterday, Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller received the most exclusive distinction that the Free State of Bavaria can award, the Bavarian Order of Merit. The Minister President of Bavaria, Markus Söder, awarded Müller the honor at the Prinz-Carl-Palais in the heart of Munich. The award is conferred on a maximum of 2,000 living recipients. Bastian Schweinsteiger received the Order in 2018.

Söder said,

You aren’t just a great footballer, you’re a man who is often sorely missed. At FC Bayern you are a true Bavarian amongst top players from all over the world. It’s a gift that you’re so authentic. You aren’t just on the pitch as a player, you’re an integral emotional part of the team. You are a great ambassador for Bavaria.

Müller himself said, “It’s a huge honour, I wasn’t expecting it. I have strong links with Bavaria and my homeland.” He added, “Bavarians are a mix of proud personalities and people who don’t forget their neighbours, nor their humour. I want to stay the same Thomas Müller as that of the last 30 years.”

Emre Can gets rare start, breaks girl’s glasses (Gianluca Di Marzio)

Emre Can got a precious start for Juventus Turin against US Sassuolo. His most notable action was a Volltreffer as they say — a direct hit! In fact, it happened during pre-game warmups: Can misfired and struck a female fan directly in the face, breaking her glasses.

Hi @emrecan_, today during warmup your shot to the face destroyed my glasses

The fan, Rossella Bornero, is not holding a grudge. She said, “I only wanted to take misfortune with a smile. There are risks that everyone takes who goes to the curve to support their team.”

Can played 53 minutes before making way for Blaise Matuidi after Juve took a 2-1 lead. The game ended 2-2.

Mirror, mirror, who’s the fairest of them all?
