While it’s been a foregone conclusion for some time now, we had to wait JUST in case something weird happened in the EPL. Now that all the games in 2019 have been played, it’s official — Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is the top scorer of 2019.
The Polish international scored 54 goals in 58 matches this year (source), becoming only the second player this decade to take the crown from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, after Harry Kane did it in 2017. Speaking of Messi, the Argentine scored 50 goals in 58 games and was second. In third place was PSG’s Kylian Mbappe with 44 goals in 49 games for club and country.
Raheem Sterling comes 4th, and Marca at the time of writing attributed him with 41 goals. He’s the reason we held off on publishing this article until the year was basically over, just in case Pep did something weird and the guy scored 15 goals in 2 games. That didn’t happen, of course, so Lewandowski takes the crown.
It’s been an amazing year for the Pole, and hopefully he’ll continue his tremendous scoring form for many years to come.
