Ever since Schalke 04 confirmed that their goalkeeper-talent Alexander Nübel will leave Gelsenkirchen, it has been reported that Bayern Munich will confirm his signature this upcoming July.
Former Bayern Munich midfield general, Stefan Effenberg, believes that the best option for both Nübel and Bayern would be an immediate loan. Der Tiger explains:
For me it’s a clear case: if next season Nübel’s place is on the bench, then his decision to go to Bayern was definitely the wrong one. For his development, playing regularly is a must and every month sitting on the side is a lost month.
At 23, the most important thing for a young goalkeeper is playing time, something that would be limited if Nübel has to compete with Manuel Neuer. Effenberg continues:
For the next few years, it can only be one solution. Bayern has to loan him somewhere where he can play and preferably also including international competitions. If he sits on the bench, his development will stagnate. I don’t believe it will come to that though.
The procedure that Effenberg is predicting would resemble how Bayern Munich dealt with Serge Gnabry’s transfer. Bayern bought Gnabry in the summer of 2017 and loaned him to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim immediately afterward, where he continued to develop. After a year he returned to Munich, and today, he is one of Bayern’s most exciting attacking outlets.
