According to a report by the Daily Star, Arsenal are targeting Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng this January. The former Germany international finds himself out of favor and on the bench more often than not, and defense is an area the Gunners need strengthening.
New Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta is a disciple of Pep Guardiola, and Boateng’s composure on the ball and his passing ability would make him a natural fit for that style of play. Given that Lucas Hernandez is coming back from injury this winter, and Bayern are linked with Espanyol defender Unai Nunez, there’s a decent chance Boateng might choose to move on this January.
According to the report, Boateng also has interest from Juventus and Paris-Saint Germain. If Arsenal are unable to secure Boa’s signature, then they’ll pursue Juventus’ Daniele Rugani. It appears that the Gunners are really aiming to fix their clownish defense, given how terrible David Luiz, Mustafi, and Sokratis really are.
If Boateng does move to Arsenal in the winter (seems unlikely at the moment), let’s hope that he can inspire a resurgence in London and get them back in the Champions League. Bayern miss their old buddies.
