It was an unexpectedly tough match for Bayern Munich. Luckily, the Bavarians managed to win it in the dying minutes with two late goals. Although Freiburg played very well and made things hard for the visiting team, they were out of luck tonight. So, without further ado, here are the match awards!

Jersey swap: Vincenzo Grifo

The Italian winger had a good game tonight. He managed to score one goal from a volley. He also had a few other chances where he could’ve scored. He was a constant danger for Bayern Munich’s goal, but luckily for Bayern, Manuel Neuer was stuck to his task well for most of the night.

Tip of the cap: Joshua Zirkzee

The youngster came on to seal the big victory! In the last moments of the match when almost everyone had already lost hope, Zirkzee got a good pass from Serge Gnabry and managed to put it behind Flekken’s back. It was the ideal start to his debut for Bayern in the Bundesliga. Besides his goal, he also showed some good positioning. If he had come on a little bit earlier, he probably could have found himself in more dangerous positions.

Golf Clap: Alphonso Davies

It was another good match for the Canadian. It’s really nice to watch his development, game in, game out. Tonight he showed some good defending capabilities against strong opposition. He made some good work down on the left-flank. His amazing run and dribble created extra space, which he used perfectly for his amazing cross that found Robert Lewandowski for an acrobatic tap in. All in all, it was a good performance from the Canadian left-back. David Alaba is getting some serious competition for the left-back starting position.

Standing Ovation: Manuel Neuer

When Freiburg started playing better, there was literally no stopping them. The chances came with ease and if it were not for Manuel Neuer, the scoreline would have been completely different. The veteran goalkeeper is now frequently showing that he is back to his best. Today, in addition to some world-class saves, he showed enormous composition and he aired with confidence. He was very good on the ball when he was under pressure from Freiburg’s attack. He finished the game with an 87% successful pass ratio and four vital saves.

Meister of the match: Serge Gnabry

Serge Gnabry’s form had taken a dip in the past couple of matches. Tonight, he wanted to get back on track and his desire in front of goal was strongly felt. From the start he always tried to create chances and score. Just for his selflessness and dedication, he deserved a spot on today’s match awards. Nearing the end of the match, his play got better and his confidence grew. He managed to provide an amazing assist to Joshua Zirkzee and moments later, he managed to score a goal to make it 3:1. Thanks to Gnabry and Zirkzee, the gap between Bayern and the first spot is now much tighter.
