It seems that Bayern Munich are in the market for a right-back, a rather odd rumour to come up considering the club’s current crisis in central defence. But who else to declare the veracity of Bayern rumours, odd or otherwise, than Bild’s chief Bayern chief reporter Christian Falk. Falk says,

Double flexed!

Bild thus confirms a rumour that Robert Lewandowski himself curiously retweeted from a Polish source just the day before:

It is interesting to note that the prime motive to sign an RB in this rumour is to make Joshua Kimmich’s move to midfield a permanent one. Benjamin Pavard, despite being brought in as a central defender, has slotted in well at Kimmich’s old role. While still having some way to go before he can reach the level he was at RB, Kimmich has steadily grown into the central midfield role, demonstrating his skill, ability and craft at that position on more than a few occasions. It would seem that the Bayern brass feel the same about him and foresee Kimmich in that role for many years to come. Thus, it makes sense to sign a new back-up for Benjamin Pavard, allowing Kimmich to focus solely on improving at CM.

What would make even more sense, considering that Jerome Boateng and Pavard are the only true center-backs left fit to play in our squad (with one of them playing at right back), would be the signing of a new Centre back. Javi Martinez lacks the pace to be a defender in the modern game, Boateng’s best days are far behind him, record-signing Lucas Hernandez doesn’t have the best injury record, and Niklas Süle is out for probably the rest of the season. Bayern need another central defender and it is time either to start testing out Lukas Mai and Chris Richards or bring in a new one. Acting on this need would therefore be prudent before a mostly want move for a right back.

Replying to a question on whether Sané would come to Bayern in the winter, Falk replied that, while it wasn’t impossible, a move in the summer is more likely.

Falk also dismissed a long-shot rumour about Brazilian winger Tetê:
