Official: Bayern Munich draw Chelsea in the Champions League Round of 16 (UPDATED)

Last season, the Bavarians had their UCL campaign cut short by Liverpool. Hopefully this time, Hansi Flick can do better.

The draws are in! Bayern Munich will face Chelsea in the Champions League Round of 16! The clash promises to be an exciting affair, and this time Thomas Muller won’t miss out on the proceedings.

Chelsea are, of course, the team that beat Bayern in the Final that Shall Not Be Named in 2012, so this will be something of a revenge match for the Bavarians. Frank Lampard has had an incredible start to his tenure as coach of the Blues, but their momentum has stifled as of late — the Londoners have won only one of their last five matches. They’ve also been on the recieving end of some heavy defeats — Manchester United and Everton come to mind.

But the games won’t be played tomorrow, they’ll be played in February, and who knows what kind of form both teams will be in when that happens. Bayern Munich, for their part, will hope that Lucas Hernandez and Kingsley Coman will be fit and back in action by the time the first game rolls around.

Here is the full draw in all of its glory:

Since Bayern won the group, they will play away first. The games will take place at the Stamford Bridge in February, with the return leg at the Allianz Arena in March. Finalized dates for the games should be announced soon, we’ll post them as soon as they’re updated.
