Kingsley Coman appeared to injure his left ankle and knee minutes after scoring in Bayern Munich’s Champions League match against Tottenham. Now Bayern will be without him for an indefinite period of time.

Kingsley Coman ended his scoring drought in the 14th minute of Bayern Munich’s final group-stage match against Tottenham Hotspur. But the celebrations turned to dread, as the fragile French attacker appeared to injure his ankle and knee after landing very awkwardly — a moment caught by photographer Lukasz Laskowsk (see above).

Coman appeared to slip on the pitch and land very awkwardly with his left leg, rolling his ankle and possibly hyperextending his knee in the process.

By the look of it, Coman rolled his ankle as he landed on his left foot after controlling the ball. He immediately attempted to take pressure off it and crashed to the pitch on the sideline. Reactions were bleak right away.

Did not look good at all. Coman gets caught on the pitch, his left ankle buckles. He’s brought straight to the locker room. Thomas Muller comes on for him...

AZ’s Patrick Strasser found himself wondering “How can someone have so much bad luck?”

According to TZ’s Jonas Austermann, Coman’s friend and compatriot Corentin Tolisso, who was watching from the stands, immediately left his seat to get to the locker room. It does not look good for our man Kingsley.

A team! Corentin Tolisso hurries up the stairs of the stands immediately after Kingsley Coman’s substitution. He wants to quickly get to his buddy in the locker room.

UPDATE: Bayern Munich confirm capsule tear in left knee

Bayern Munich has released the official diagnosis of Coman’s injury: a capsule tear. The club stated (FCBayern.com)

The diagnosis from club doctor Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt late on Wednesday night revealed a capsule tear in the left knee. Coman also pulled his biceps tendon and jarred the knee joint. The knee will be immobilised for a while with a splint.

The timeframe for Coman’s recovery is unknown. The club merely stated that he would be out “for the time being.”
