Paris Saint-Germain have announced that Sara Däbritz has suffered an ACL injury and could be out for some time. The Germany midfielder picked up the injury in PSG’s recent league match with Montpellier.

While the full extent of her injury isn’t known (at least, publicly) at this time, PSG states that Däbritz will meet with specialists this week to determine if an operation will be required.

The length of time that Däbritz will be out will be critical for PSG as they move forward into the spring season. In Division 1 Féminine, PSG’s grip on the second and final Champions League spot awarded to France is currently only 2 points over Bordeaux and 5 points over Montpellier. Losing Däbritz’s dynamism into March and April will also impact the Champions League Quarterfinal against Arsenal.

For Germany, well, quite frankly, Däbritz being sidelined into the new year won’t hurt them much at all. Due to the Frauen’s poor showing at the 2019 World Cup, they failed to qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics. The Germans do have two Euro 2021 Qualifiers in April; however, with four wins out of four and a +31 goal differential, I’m not sure losing Däbritz for a few matches will hurt them.

We wish the former Bayern Munich midfielder well in her recovery!
