Bayern Munich received two goals from Lineth Beerensteyn to topple SGS Essen 2-0 in the Frauen Bundesliga. Every three points is massive for Bayern as they look to keep the pace with both Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim ahead of them in the table.

After a back and forth first half that saw Essen have a slight edge, Jens Scheuer made two halftime changes. Melanie Leupolz came on for Dominika Skorvankova and Mandy Islacker replaced Jovana Damnjanovic. Finally, some life sparked into the Bayern attack.

Beerensteyn opened the scoring for Bayern in the 54th minute. Her shot from the top of the box beat Essen’s goalkeeper to the near post to give Bayern the 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, she added Bayern’s second on a short corner. Carolin Simon whipped in a cross, and Beerensteyn headed it into the back of the net for the 2-0 advantage.

The win puts six points between Bayern and fourth place Essen. The top three, however, remain unchanged as Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim joined Bayern in taking all three points this weekend. After 11 Bundesliga games, Wolfsburg have 31 points, Hoffenheim have 28 points, and Bayern have 25 points.

Bayern have two more matches before the winter break. Next weekend, they’ll host Freiburg. On the final Matchday, Bayern will travel to face FFC Frankfurt.
